As the seasons shift into autumn, the Pacific Northwest transforms into a landscape rich with color, texture, and hidden nourishment. While illustrating Wild Remedies, I had the chance to immerse myself in this world - studying the berries, leaves, thorns, and subtle details that make wild plants so special.

This small collection of watercolor illustrations highlights some of the most iconic fall foraging plants: elderberry, blackberry, raspberry and rosehips. Each of these species plays a role in traditional herbalism and seasonal living, and painting them allowed me to explore their character up close. I have such clear memories of drinking rosehip tea with my grandmother when I was young, so creating this artwork felt like a way to reconnect with those moments - something I’m deeply grateful for.

My goal with these wild berry illustrations was to capture both botanical accuracy and the sense of wonder that comes from discovering these plants on a cool autumn walk. I spent time observing each species - how the berries cluster, how the leaves curl at the edges, how the colors shift as the season deepens, so the artwork would feel both true to the plant and evocative of their atmosphere.

These paintings became an important part of the visual language of Wild Remedies, offering readers not just information, but an invitation to pause, look closely, and form their own connection with the plants around them. By highlighting details that might otherwise be overlooked, I hoped to bring the experience of foraging to the page.
