Illustration Process for Books
Step 1: Brief & Discovery
We clarify your book’s scope: subject matter, number of illustrations, style, timeline, and specs. I review manuscripts or outlines, gather references, and align on a direction.
Step 2: Sketch Development
I provide line drawings or thumbnails for approval. Botanical and culinary subjects are researched thoroughly to ensure scientific and visual accuracy.
Step 3: Final Painting
Using artist-grade watercolor supplies, I paint detailed illustrations based on our approved sketches.
Step 4: Digital File Prep
Final artwork is scanned at 600 DPI+, cleaned digitally, and delivered in ready-to-print formats (TIFF, PNG, PSD, etc.). Originals can be shipped on request.
Step 5: Delivery & Revisions
Files are organized, labeled, and formatted to your publishing needs. Minor edits are included within the scope.
