My botanical painting for the Through the Garden Gates exhibition

I’m excited to share that my watercolor painting Pansy Varieties is currently on view at CityScape Community ArtSpace in North Vancouver as part of the Through the Garden Gates group exhibition, organized by North Van Arts. The show runs from June 14 to July 18, 2025, and features garden-inspired works by local artists.

My piece, painted in watercolor on Arches paper (11x14 inches), is a celebration of the resilience and charm of pansies—flowers that thrive in cooler seasons and often surprise us with their vibrant color palettes and delicate patterns. I chose to paint a variety of cultivars, focusing on the subtle textures of the petals and their soft interplay of color.

As a botanical artist, I’m always drawn to the intricate details found in nature. Gardens, especially those that feel slightly wild or lovingly tended over time, are a continual source of inspiration. This exhibition offered a wonderful opportunity to connect with other artists who also interpret gardens in their own unique ways—through paint, sculpture, and more.

If you’re in the Vancouver area, I’d love for you to visit the exhibition and see these works in person. It’s a beautiful way to welcome summer and appreciate the artistic interpretations of plant life that surrounds us.
